Position Summary
The GIS Installation & Pre-Commissioning Supervisor represents the OEM at site, overseeing the safe mechanical installation, gas filling, wiring, and pre-commissioning of 66kV GIS panels. The role ensures compliance with factory procedures, CLIENT standards, and project-specific safety protocols. It includes active collaboration with PMC, the EPC team, subcontractors, and the client’s commissioning team.
Key Responsibilities
- Supervise unpacking, inspection, and placement of GIS panels/modules.
- Ensure mechanical assembly is completed in accordance with OEM tolerances, including inter-panel joints, busbar alignment, and SF6 sealing systems.
- Guide or validate SF6 gas filling, evacuation, and leakage testing using approved filling rigs and calibrated instruments.
- Oversee interfacing of control cables, CT/VT wiring, protection relay I/O, and auxiliary circuits per OEM schematics.
- Validate correct function of mechanical interlocks, grounding switches, and isolators.
- Witness or perform high voltage withstand tests, insulation resistance, contact resistance, and partial discharge tests as required.
- Review and resolve punch list items related to installation or functional deviations.
- Submit daily and weekly technical progress reports, redline drawings, and installation checklists to Client and the OEM.
- Support interface testing with SCADA and protection teams.
- Attend energization support sessions and ensure all GIS protections, alarms, and safety are functional and integrated.

Qualifications & Experience
Education
Technical diploma or degree in Electrical Engineering or HV Switchgear Technology.
Years of Experience
Minimum 8–10 years in GIS switchgear field services, with at least 3 years as OEM site supervisor on 66kV or higher voltage installations.
Industry Exposure
Experience with gas-insulated substations in oil & gas, transmission, or EPC environments.
Technical Tool/Software Proficiency
- SF6 handling equipment and leak detection tools
- Microsoft Office Suite for reporting
- OEM drawing review and signal verification tools
Technical Skills
- Proficient in GIS mechanical assembly, SF6 evacuation and pressurization procedures.
- Familiar with HV testing protocols (HVAC, IR, contact resistance, partial discharge).
- Ability to guide electrical interface wiring for protection relays, SCADA, and control systems.
- Strong knowledge of interlock testing, function checks, and trip circuits.
- Competence in interpreting wiring diagrams, single-line diagrams, and terminal sched- ules.
- Detail-oriented and safety-focused, especially under gas-filled, high-voltage conditions.
- Clear communicator with strong coordination skills across field teams.
- Organized in documentation and technical reporting.
- Proactive in identifying field-level issues and escalating to OEM or engineering.
- Culturally adaptable and experienced in remote, multi-disciplinary environments.
Preferred Additional Qualifications
- Prior deployment of Schneider Electric GIS or OEM-integrated systems.
- OEM certification for GIS installation or gas handling (e.g., Siemens, ABB, Schneider, Hitachi).
- Fluency in English required; French or Swahili is an asset.
Work Conditions
- Site-based in remote locations of Uganda
- Full PPE and strict compliance with HV and SF6 handling safety procedures required.
- May include confined space access, elevated platforms, and hot work permit zones.
- Extended hours or weekend shifts may be required during pre-commissioning and energization phases
