GIS Fitter – 66kV Substation Assembly

Position Summary

The GIS Fitter – 66kV is responsible for the precise mechanical assembly, alignment, and support installation of Gas Insulated Switchgear components in 66kV substations. This includes working in clean environments, aligning internal components (busbars, switches, circuit breakers), and supporting OEM engineers or vendor expats during erection and integration.

Key Responsibilities

  • Perform mechanical fitting, bolting, and alignment of GIS components such as:
  • Busbars and spacers
  • Disconnectors and grounding switches
  • Circuit breakers (CBs) and instrument transformers
  • Cable terminations and enclosures
  • Work under the guidance of GIS vendor representatives and Client supervision.
  • Ensure cleanroom discipline in the GIS hall: proper attire, dust control, and tool cleanliness.
  • Use torque wrenches and alignment tools to secure joints to OEM specifications.
  • Participate in leak testing preparation (SF6 compartments), O-rings and gasket installation.
  • Support HV test preparation: install covers, grounding, and measurement interfaces.
  • Handle and organize GIS parts safely and according to layout drawings and packing lists.
  • Identify and report any part defects, misalignments, or missing components.
  • Maintain daily activity logs, checklist signoffs, and coordination with QA/QC teams.

Qualifications & Experience

Education

Technical diploma in Mechanical Fitting, Electrical Technology, or Industrial Assembly.

Years of Experience

4+ years in GIS substation installation or heavy-duty electrical equipment assembly.

Industry Exposure

Oil & gas, utility substations, EPC projects, or industrial HV environments.

Technical Skills

  • Familiarity with 66kV GIS systems and components (e.g., busbars, CBs, disconnectors).
  • Skilled in precision fitting, gasket/O-ring placement, and SF6-safe practices.
  • Proficient in mechanical assembly drawings and isometric layouts.
  • Able to use torque tools, laser alignment kits, and cleanroom tools.
  • Understanding of OEM documentation, part numbers, and test/inspection routines.

  • Safety-focused, especially when working in enclosed GIS areas with SF6.
  • Organized, punctual, and accountable in handling delicate components.
  • Cooperative and adaptable in multinational/multi-vendor work environments.

Preferred Additional Qualifications

  • Experience with Schneider Electric GIS or similar OEMs (e.g., Siemens, Hitachi, ABB).
  • Cleanroom certification or experience working in dust-free HV environments.
  • English language skills for tool labels, work procedures, and communication.
